I cast on a hattish number of stitches with a super bulky yarn on size 11 20-inch circular needles. Then I knit a tube in K1, P1 ribbing about 20 inches around and 7 inches long and sewed up one end. Voilà! (Which is French for hat.)

You should tell us all where you buy your yarn. Maybe you mentioned it in an earlier post, but I seemed to have missed it. Are you concerned with have eco-friendly/sustainable yarn?
Just curious. I really like the multicolored stuff you are using for the hat.
Oh sure, "Mission accomplished." Next thing we know you'll be landing a plane on the flight deck of some ship wearing a flight suit that you knitted yourself and the folks on the ship will hang a banner knitted from multi-colored yarn that says "Mission Accomplished" and before you know it tens of thousands of bundles of multi-colored yarn will be wounded and you'll be all, "Well, I didn't knit the banner. Don't blame me. I can't be responsible for what other people knit. You people that want us to cut and run just hate America's multi-colored yarn and don't want to support multi-colored yarn! Stupid yarn hippies."
Serenity Springs: As you know, you have to knit with the multi-colored yarn you have, not the multi-colored yarn you want or wish to have at a later time.
Anonymous: So far I have bought my yarn at big craft stores like Michael's and JoAnn's. They're open late on weeknights when I have time to shop. I recently bought a book called No Sheep for You, which has a lot of information about and patterns for yarn made of hemp, bamboo, soy, and other cool, sustainable stuff. Now I need to find a yarn store that carries it, so I can see how I like the yarn in person.
